Forehead Lines

You notice them in the mirror when you raise your brows in surprise, then again when your face is still. On Wimpole Street, forehead lines are softened together with the frown complex, so the brow stays lifted and the whole upper face looks fresh, open and rested.

What it is and why it happens

Horizontal forehead lines come from raising your brows, which people do constantly: in conversation, in surprise, and unconsciously to lift a heavy upper lid.

They are among the first lines to become permanent, because the frontalis is large, used constantly, and sits over skin that is relatively thin.

The key is what the frontalis does. It is the only muscle that lifts the brow. The muscles between the brows and around the eyes pull it down. Balancing the two is what keeps the brow beautifully placed.

That is why Regents Park Aesthetics always treats the forehead and frown complex together: the lines soften, the brow stays lifted, and the eyes look more open.

Treatment takes place at our Wimpole Street clinic, a few minutes from Oxford Circus, conservatively at a first appointment, with a review at two weeks.

Dynamic forehead lines

Appear when you raise your brows

Dynamic forehead lines

The responsive stage. Muscle relaxation clears them almost completely, and treating now prevents them etching in permanently.

Static etched lines

Visible at rest

Static etched lines

Where the crease has become permanent. Relaxation softens them substantially, and boosters or microneedling rebuild the skin alongside.

Compensatory lifting

Deep lines, heavy upper lids

Compensatory lifting

Where you raise your brows constantly to see past a hooded lid. Treating the lid first opens the eye, and the forehead follows.

Low-set brow

Brow sits low, little forehead space

Low-set brow

Where the brow is already low, a brow lift approach opens the eye, with any forehead treatment kept very light.

How we assess and treat

We watch you raise your brows, frown and relax, and we look at where your brow sits when your face is genuinely at rest, which takes a moment because most people hold their brows slightly raised while being examined.

We check whether you are lifting to compensate for a heavy lid. Where you are, the lid is the thing to address first, which opens the eye beautifully.

We assess how much forehead space you have. A naturally low-set brow is treated with a very light touch, or with a brow lift approach instead, so the brow keeps its height.

We treat the complex together every time, which is the detail that keeps the result looking natural for the full three to four months.

Your options

Which treatment for your type of forehead line?

As a guide, this is how we typically match each type to a treatment. Your own plan is always confirmed at consultation, and where a type is best seen by a specialist, your clinician points you to the right door.

Type
Recommended treatment
Why
Dynamic forehead lines
Relaxes the lifting muscle, always balanced against the frown
Static etched lines
A set crease needs the skin rebuilding, not the muscle relaxing
Compensatory lifting
The brow is working to hold a heavy lid, so treat the lid first
Low-set brow

Can you treat it at home?

Sun protection, because ultraviolet degrades the collagen that lets skin recover from being folded, and the forehead takes more of it than most of the face.

Retinoids used consistently thicken the skin and improve etched lines over months, which addresses the crease rather than the movement.

Awareness helps a little for daytime brow-raising, particularly for people who lift while concentrating or reading. A small habit with a real reward.

Sleeping on your back reduces the compression creasing that accumulates over decades.

Home care improves the skin the line sits in, and muscle relaxation softens the fold itself, which is why the two work so well together.

Frequently Asked Questions

The forehead is the only muscle lifting your brow, so treating it together with the muscles that pull down keeps the brow lifted and the result balanced.

By treating the forehead and frown complex together and dosing conservatively, which keeps the brow exactly where you like it.

£250 for two areas, which is the usual combination for forehead lines, including a two week review.

Three to four months. Forehead lines tend to be at the shorter end because the frontalis is large and used constantly.

The frontalis is a big muscle in constant use and recovers faster than the smaller muscles around the eyes. Perfectly normal, and your plan is timed around it.

It softens them substantially. A line etched at rest is a crease in the tissue as well as a movement, so skin boosters or resurfacing usually run alongside.

When lines begin to linger after the expression has gone. Treating a dynamic line before it etches in prevents the etching.

Then the lid is the thing to treat first, which opens the eye and makes the whole plan work better.

Yes. We treat conservatively at a first appointment and review at two weeks, adding a little if you would like more.

From day three, with the full effect at fourteen days.
